Where Is Plasma Arc Welding Used?

Definition of plasma arc welding:

Plasma arc welding is a liquid welding process in which a molten state is formed between metals. The hot ionized gas is called plasma. These hot ionized gases are used to heat the working plate, and the joints are created due to fusion.

Plasma arc welding torch:

This is the most important part of the plasma welding process. This welding gun is very similar to the welding gun used in TIG welding. The PAW torch is water-cooled. Because the arc is contained inside the torch and generates high heat, a water jacket is provided outside the torch.

Advantages of plasma arc welding:

The advantages of plasma welding are as follows:

● Torch design allows better control of the arc.
● This method provides greater freedom for observing and controlling the weld.
● Higher heat concentration and plasma jet allow faster travel speed.
● The high temperature and high heat concentration of plasma allow the keyhole effect.
● This provides complete penetration for single pass welding of many joints.
● Compared with G-TAW (tungsten gas shielded welding), the heat affected zone is smaller.
● Compared with other welding processes, it uses less current input.

Disadvantages of plasma arc welding:

The disadvantages of plasma welding are as follows:

● Compared with L BW and EBW, it produces a wider weld and heat affected zone.
● Plasma welding equipment is very expensive. Therefore, it will have a higher start-up cost.
● Plasma welding requires training and specialization.
● Generate ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
● The noise generated by this method is about 100 dB.
● The welding torch is bulky, so manual welding is a bit difficult and requires the above training.

Application of plasma arc welding:

Applications of plasma arc welding include:

● This welding is used in the marine and aerospace industries.
● For welding stainless steel or titanium pipes.
● Mainly used in the electronics industry.
● In addition, it is also used to repair tools, molds and dies.
● For welding or coating of turbine blades.
The above information is provided by plasma welding machine suppliers.
