Why Choose to Use Gouging Carbon Rods?

Carbon arc gouging is a processing method to plan and cut the base material of metal by using the high temperature electric current generated between the carbon electrode and the metal to partially heat the metal to the molten state and at the same time blow off the molten metal with the high-speed airflow of compressed air.

The process

1.Clear the weld root
2.Use carbon arc gouging to open bevels, especially U-shaped bevels. (3) Use carbon arc gouging to remove welding defects when reworking parts.
3.Eliminate weld defects (gouge) by carbon arc gouging when reworking welds.
4.Remove burrs, spurs, risers, and defects in castings from the surface of castings.
5.Cutting stainless steel medium and thin plate
6.Punching holes in a sheet workpiece.
7.Plan the residual height of the weld surface.

Arc Length

When gas gouging, the long arc will cause arc instability and even arc rest. In general, it is suitable to use short arc to improve the production efficiency and the utilization rate of  gouging carbon rods. In general, the arc length is 1-2mm.

Carbon arc gouging has the following advantages.

(1) The manual carbon arc gouging is very flexible and can be operated in all positions. The accessibility is good and very simple.
(2) When removing defects in the weld, the shape and depth of the defects can be clearly observed under the arc.
(3) High efficiency. When using automatic carbon arc gouging, it has high accuracy and reduces labor intensity.

Scope of Application

(1) High efficiency, low noise, and reduced labor intensity compared to using air shovels or grinding wheels.
(2) Compared with plasma arc gouging, the equipment is simple, the compressed air is easy to obtain and the cost is low.
(3) Because carbon arc planing uses high temperature instead of oxidation to plan metal, it is not only suitable for ferrous metals, but also for stainless steel, aluminum, copper and other non-ferrous metals and their alloys.
(4)Since carbon arc planing uses compressed air to blow away the molten metal, it can be operated in all positions; manual carbon arc planing is more flexible and operable, so it can still be used in narrow working stations or areas of poor accessibility.
(5)When removing defects of weld or casting, the planed surface is bright and shiny, and the shape and depth of the defects can be observed clearly under the electric arc, so it is beneficial to remove the defects.
