welding gun

What is a welding gun ?

A welding gun is the part of the welding process that performs the welding operation. It is a tool used for gas welding and is shaped like a gun with a nozzle at the front that emits a high temperature flame as a heat source. It is flexible, convenient and simple to use. The welding torch is an important tool in the field of metal joining, especially for high production operations. It increases the efficiency of the welding process, keeps professional welders comfortable while working and encourages a neater finish.

Welding Gun Work

The welding gun uses the high current and voltage of the welding machine to generate heat that gathers at the end of the gun and melts the wire, which penetrates into the part to be welded. The power of the welding torch depends on the power of the welding machine and the material to be welded. The welding torch has the advantages of qualified welding effect, safe welding, fast speed, reliable torch performance, simple maintenance, easy adjustment, the torch does not use electricity, saving steel, small investment in equipment, etc. The welding gun can easily complete the welding work of both flash welding and electroslag welding, and the quality and efficiency is better than the latter two sets of equipment.

Types of Welding Guns

A welder can use a welding gun in many types of processes, including spot welding, arc welding and electron beam welding

Spot Welding Guns

A welding gun for resistance spot welding (RSW) has a main housing which contains a mounted cylinder to compress the necessary electrodes.

Arc Welding Guns

Arc welding guns facilitate the discharge between the electrode wire and the metal workpiece. These guns can direct the electrode into the arc and some include additional features to shield or start the arc.

MIG/MAG Welding Guns

There are two broad categories of welding machines: molten inert gas shielded (MIG) and molten active gas shielded (MAG). A MIG/MAG welding gun includes connections from the welding gun to the pipe fitting nut and gas pipe, as well as various cables such as pipe kits, water-cooled gun inlets and outlets, power cables, gas pipes and internal wiring.

Welding Guns Applications

The primary fusion welding processes are SMAW (shielded metal arc welding, also referred to as stick welding), MIG (metal inert gas), FCAW (flux-cored arc welding) and TIG (tungsten inert gas).

Welding torches are used in industries that rely on metal connections in their daily work or production processes, such as automotive, agricultural equipment and railway vehicle construction.

Structural manufacturing companies rely on welding torches to close joints in steel structures.

Welding guns can be used in challenging operating conditions. For example, these guns can be used for welding on orbiting spacecraft

Welding Guns Precautions

(1) After the welding gun is plugged in, never touch the gun head, it will definitely burn and blister if you accidentally touch it, you need to flush it quickly.

(2) There will be debris on the head of the torch after a long time, you need to clean it with a wipe to keep it clean.

(3) When the torch is placed in the torch holder, care must still be taken not to touch the objects next to the holder.

(4) When the torch has been used, unplug it and wait 10 minutes for it to cool down before putting it away.
