What Do You Know about Copper Alloys?

A copper alloy is an alloy made of pure copper with the addition of one or more other elements. Copper alloys come in a variety of colors, mainly purple, yellow, and cyan. When oxidized, the copper alloy will also change color.

1. Copper Red: refers to pure copper, the main varieties of oxygen-free copper, copper red, phosphorus deoxidized copper, silver copper.

2.Brass: copper and zinc based alloy, subdivided into simple brass and complex brass, complex brass is also named nickel brass, silicon brass, etc.

3. Bronze: Copper-based alloys other than copper-nickel and copper-zinc alloys, the main varieties are tin bronze, aluminum bronze, special bronze (also called high copper alloy).

4.Nickel-silver: refers to the copper-nickel alloy.

Classification of Copper alloy

1. According to the alloy system, non-alloy copper: non-alloy copper includes high purity copper, tough copper, deoxidized copper, oxygen-free copper, etc. Customarily, people call non-alloy copper as copper red or pure copper, also called red copper.
Other copper alloys belong to alloyed copper. In China and Russia, alloy copper is divided into brass, bronze and white copper, and then divided into smaller alloy systems in the main category.
2. According to the method of material formation, copper alloys can be divided into cast copper alloys and deformed copper alloys.
3.By function, there are copper alloys for conducting electricity and heat, copper alloys for structure, corrosion-resistant copper alloys, wear-resistant copper alloys, free cutting copper alloys, elastic copper alloys, damping copper alloys, and art copper alloys.

Applications of Copper Alloy

1.Electrical Industry

Highly conductive copper is consumed in the transmission of electricity, mainly in power cables, busbars, transformers, switches, mating components and couplings.
Highly conductive and high-strength copper alloys are widely used in the manufacture of electric motors. The main copper parts used are the stator, rotor and shaft head. In large motors, the windings are cooled with water or hydrogen, known as dual water-intercooled or hydrogen-cooled motors, which require large lengths of hollow wire.
Since the 1980s, fiber-optic cables have been rapidly replacing copper cables in communication trunks due to their large current-carrying capacity and other advantages. However, the conversion of electrical energy into light energy and the wiring to the consumer still requires large amounts of copper.
As the standard of living of Chinese people improves and home appliances become more popular, the residential electricity load grows rapidly.

2.Aerospace

Some materials with higher critical temperatures, called ""high-temperature superconducting materials"", have recently been discovered, and they are mostly composite oxides. With a critical temperature of 90 K, they can operate at the temperature of liquid nitrogen. In addition to microelectronic control systems and instruments and instrumentation, many critical components in aerospace technology, rockets, satellites, and the space shuttle use copper and copper alloys.

3.Construction industry

Copper water pipes are used for water supply, heating, air supply, and fire sprinkler systems in residential and public buildings because of their aesthetics and durability, ease of installation, safety, fire protection, health care, and many other advantages.
